Richard Ashworth is president of operations for Walgreen Co., based in Deerfield, Ill. He is responsible for bringing together all Walgreen services in markets and communities all across the country.
Previously, he served as director of healthcare, health & beauty UK and Republic of Ireland at Alliance Boots where he led the development and delivery of health care strategy. Ashworth was responsible for the pharmacy, opticians, and hearing care teams while serving on the Boots UK operating committee.
Prior to joining Alliance Boots he served as Walgreens corporate operations vice president for the western United States.
Ashworth joined Walgreens in 1992 as a service clerk. He was promoted through store management holding various roles from store manager to district manager from 1999 until 2007.
In 2007, he became vice president of pharmacy benefit management services for Walgreens Health Services (WHS), the company’s managed care division. In 2010 he was named vice president of pharmacy operations. In 2011 he was named corporate operations vice president for the western United States, and in November 2013 he was appointed to his position at Alliance Boots. In September 2014 he was named to his current position.
Ashworth received a Doctor of pharmacy degree (PharmD) from Nova Southeastern University in 1999 and his master’s degree of business administration from the University of Phoenix in 2004. He currently serves on the board of directors of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores.
